在千万人之中，陈吟和刘黎这两个普通的未婚男女就这样相遇了。在报社做专栏记者的陈吟和男朋友高云翰相处了两年，恋爱关系不咸不淡，就是没有找到感觉。室内装潢设计师刘黎的出现，让陈吟重新开始审视爱情。在妹妹陈歌的婚礼上，陈吟对刘黎产生好感，并渐渐疏远了自己的男友高云翰，奇妙地与刘黎之间产生了某种化学反应。刘黎是一个带有典型艺术特质、个性分明的人。身为室内设计师的刘黎，常常见到那些新人和家庭从“牵手”变成“对手”。久而久之，刘黎对待爱情和婚姻这回事也就不抱任何希望了。刘黎厌倦把世俗的东西和单纯的情感纠缠在一起。他觉得感情就是感情，不要被房子、车子、票子这些琐碎的东西羁绊起来。即使在工作中，他也不愿因客户而媚俗，这使得他的设计室生意寥寥。和刘黎一样，陈吟是一个害怕结婚的人。陈吟眼看就30岁了，不但没有结婚的念头，就连对待恋爱这回事也是态度十分不明朗。和陈吟交往后，刘黎充满创作的热情。但无数个两人生活中不畅的细节堆积起来，逐渐地，陈吟被刘黎的小布尔乔亚做派搞得十分不快，追求完美的陈吟也感到了新的失落。在选择尝试着生活在一起之后，在不断经历感情的低谷的时候，在时常遇到这样或那样的诱惑处于感情游离状态的时候，两个人对婚姻的恐惧，不但没有愈演愈烈，反而越来越浓。最终，他们达成了共识：珍爱对方，就应该结婚。
